Seeing value before the market does
Zahra Properties was founded in 2004 by Afzal Nathoo, who saw value in Toronto neighbourhoods before the rest of the market did. He invested early in areas like Liberty Village, before you could even drive into it, and in The Junction and Jane & Highway 7, well before they became sought-after places to live.
Afzal built the company by acquiring units in bulk in new buildings while projects were still on the drawing board, before they launched to the public, working directly with established builders. He chose to manage every home himself rather than outsource it, and that decision still defines how we operate.
In 2020, the second generation joined the business. Zain Nathoo brought experience in capital markets, construction financing and real estate private equity. As President & CEO, he has expanded Zahra Properties into Dallas and built a development platform spanning small- and large-scale projects across Toronto. Afzal continues to guide the company's long-term direction as Founder & Chairman.
Today, Zahra Properties owns and manages more than 500 properties across Canada and the United States, with over $460 million in assets under management.

Afzal Nathoo
Founder & Chairman
Afzal founded Zahra Properties in 2004 and built it into a portfolio of more than 500 properties. He oversees the firm's long-term strategy and governance.
Zain Nathoo
President & Chief Executive Officer
Zain leads Zahra Properties' operations, investment strategy and growth, including its expansion into Dallas and its development platform in Toronto. Before joining the firm in 2020, he worked in capital markets at Dundee, construction financing at RBC and real estate private equity at Greybrook. He holds a degree from the Schulich School of Business and a master's from Columbia University.
Hira Nand
Chief Financial Officer
Hira is CFO of Zahra Properties and its affiliated companies. He is responsible for internal and external financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting and investor relations. He previously served as Controller at Superior Radiant Products, a manufacturer of energy-efficient infrared heating with operations in Canada, the U.S. and China. Before that, he spent eight years as Senior Finance Manager at a leading private real estate development and asset management firm in the U.K. Hira is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and an Associate Chartered Management Accountant, and holds a master's in Business Strategic Management.
